Is the Evanston Chamber of Commerce part of the City of Evanston?
We work hard with our partners at the City of Evanston and Uinta County Government to make sure that our services are as seamless as possible. The Evanston Chamber of Commerce – which is a 501(c)(6) – is a separate organization from the city. We receive support for our day-to-day operations through the paid memberships of local businesses, local government grants, and the Chamber’s own fundraising efforts.
We have also formed a 501(c)(3) non-profit known as the Evanston Chamber of Commerce Foundation. This foundation makes it possible to receive grants from various agencies in order to exclusively fund charitable, educational, scientific, and other such purposes authorized by the Internal Revenue Service.
What does the Evanston Chamber of Commerce do?
The Evanston Chamber of Commerce is organized to enhance the growth and prosperity of the Evanston business community. We accomplish this mission by working closely with private businesses and government partners to ensure that Evanston is ripe for economic development.
From events to business resources and everything in-between, we are a tremendous resource for local residents and non-local visitors alike.
We are also the tourism promoters for our community. Wyoming’s second largest industry is tourism, bringing in an average of over $1 billion in visitor spending. These tourism dollars are spent at our local businesses: Restaurants, hotels, retail shops, etc. This supports our community’s small businesses and creates jobs for our residents.
What experience do chamber employees have?
Our Executive Director, Dawn Darby, holds AA, BS, and BA degrees in Business Administration. She has been an advisor to economic development and taxation officials; she has been a liaison for the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) to our community; and, she has been a mentor to several local businesses.
Bret has over 10 years of experience in Oil & Gas-related support industries, 95% of which comes from the Evanston community. Do you have to be a member of the Evanston Chamber to participate in Chamber events?
Absolutely not! While membership in the Evanston Chamber of Commerce is certainly preferred to help support us in our on-going effort to bring events and economic development to our town, part of our funding comes from grants that support tourism and the local community. As such, our events are always open to the public regardless of whether or not you are a chamber member. Showing up to an event does not obligate you to become a member of the Evanston Chamber. Members do receive special discounts though and are given preferential spaces (if vendors at an event), premium seats (if participating in a ticketed event), and depending on your membership level you may be recognized at events as a premium Chamber sponsor. Non-members and the general public are encouraged to participate in any and all Chamber of Commerce events, luncheons, breakfasts, or other community activities.
